SCH Fall Overnight to Flagstaff

November 3 - 5, 2026

It is that time of year again.  Gather your hiking boots, your sticks, and your packs and head to Flagstaff to explore an area that the Sun City Hikers have not visited overnight since 2018. Before that, it was 2000!  For many of you, this will be your first Overnight to Flagstaff!  We have had so many new members since 2018, our hike coordinators agreed it was time to put Flagstaff back on the schedule.

The Flagstaff area is a hiker’s paradise—from trails on the mountains to those in pine forests, through red-rock canyons and lush meadows.  We hope for good weather but have great hikes planned, regardless of what Mother Nature decides to do.  All three hiking levels are planning a hike on November 3, the day we drive to Flagstaff, so read the hike information linked in the sidebar for important information about where and when to meet.  We want you to understand the plan before you rush to make reservations.

Our Accommodations:  We think you are going to enjoy our accommodations in Flagstaff—Tru and Home2 Suites in adjoining buildings. This is a relatively new (August 2025) Hilton with beautiful grounds in a forest setting though not far off I-17.  Check out the pictures on the Hotel Amenities sidebar link.  I’m envisioning several of you sitting around the fire pit after dinner, meeting up with some new hiking club friends.   Or lots of us having a corn hole contest!  Or meeting you at the on-site “Pines Bar and Bistro” to share a sweet treat.  OR….just relaxing in one of the many sitting areas.

The Sun City Hikers have two blocks of rooms reserved.  The Home2 Suites have larger guest rooms with either 1 king bed or 2 queen beds and both have a queen-sized pull-out sofa. The Tru guest rooms are compact with either 1 king bed or 2 queen beds, no sofa, no coffeemaker or microwave but they do have a mini-fridge and a large bathroom.   All rooms have walk-in showers vs tubs.  Both are very nice.  You need to reserve your room before October 4th.

There is a very large eating area available for our breakfast (included) on the main floor plus a separate meeting area that we will use for our gathering times which is away from the eating area for more privacy.  Our group has free parking at the facility.

You have a choice of either hotel and a choice of room rates depending on whether you go to Home2 or Tru and what type of room you request.   We have reserved ten rooms at the Hilton Home2--five rooms are 2 Queen Studio’s ($150.36) and five rooms are Studio Kings ($144.79) per night.  We have another ten rooms at the Hilton Tru--five rooms have a King bed ($128.09) and five rooms have two Queen beds ($133.66) per night.  These rates include taxes.  There is more detailed information on the reservation link.

Guests have the option to earn both Hilton Honors points and airline miles. "Sign In" at the top and log in to your Hilton Honors account.  Your Hilton Honors account will automatically be attached to the reservation.

Important note for those who want to reserve a room for Monday, November 2 or Thursday, November 5: Since the online booking link is set up for the contracted dates of Tuesday, November 3, and Wednesday, November 4, reserve your stay for Tuesday and Wednesday using the booking link first. Then, if you would like to arrive on Monday and/or extend your stay through Thursday, email Lindsey Thompson, Group Coordinator, at LThompson@ncghospitality.com with your request.  She will check availability and add those nights to your reservation at the group rate, if available.  I suggest you make your reservation as soon as possible if you are adding an additional night(s).

Hospitality Hour at the Hotel: We will meet at 5:00 p.m. each day to socialize, to share our experiences from the day, and to learn about the hike for the following day.  This is a great time to mingle, enjoy snacks provided by our Social Committee, and get to know hikers whom you do not normally hike with. You do not want to miss this time together.  Bring your own favorite drink.

Signing Up for Hikes, Roommates and Carpooling: Our Club Express goes live on October 1st.  These sign-ups will be open after that date.

Our Hikes:  Your hike coordinators have put together some wonderful hikes for you. The assembly place and time are given for Tuesday only along with the hike description and hike details.  The departure time for the hikes on Wednesday and Thursday will be given at the meeting the night before.  Please see the Hikes link in the sidebar for hike details.
